Aboriginal Peoples have used fire as a land management practice for thousands of years. Cultural burning practitioner Victor Steffensen says, we “…used low-intensity, carefully timed fires to care for Country.” (Explainer: What is cultural burning? | National Indigenous Times).
Wiiyn is a word for fire in the language of the Gunditjmara Peoples of south-western Victoria.
This short course builds on foundational knowledge held in Ngaachi (Earth), grounding you in what has come before. From here, you are guided into Wiiyn (Fire) a space of warming, burning, and renewal where old ways of thinking and long‑held beliefs are gently challenged, released, and reshaped. Here, old beliefs are softened, burned back, and transformed, allowing clarity, humility, and renewed understanding to rise.
You can only enrol in Wiiyn/Fire (Short-Course 2b) if you have already completed Ngaachi/Earth (Short-Course 2a).
